Understanding the Ecosystem

A platform built around how student communities operate.

Student clubs often rely on a combination of tools such as Google Forms for registrations, WhatsApp for communication, spreadsheets for tracking progress, and social platforms for event promotion. While these tools solve individual problems, managing everything across multiple platforms creates friction for organizers.

As I explored the product requirements, one recurring theme became clear: communities needed a more connected experience that brought these workflows together.

Making Events Easier to Discover

Helping communities reach more students.

One of the primary goals of Oppskills was enabling communities to showcase opportunities in a structured and discoverable format. From hackathons and workshops to competitions and club events, organizers needed a dedicated space to publish opportunities while students needed an easier way to find them.

My focus was on designing interfaces that balanced information density with discoverability, making it easier for students to explore relevant opportunities.

From Registration to Execution

Supporting organizers beyond event sign-ups.

A successful event involves much more than collecting registrations. Organizers need visibility into participants, event progress, and ongoing activities throughout the lifecycle of an event.

Based on the product requirements, I designed workflows that helped organizers manage registrations and monitor event activity through a centralized interface. This reduced dependency on disconnected spreadsheets and manual tracking processes.

Enabling Community Operations

Designing tools for teams behind the events.

As the platform evolved, the scope extended beyond event management into community operations. Communities needed ways to organize members, assign responsibilities, and coordinate activities across different teams.

I worked on experiences that supported role management, task assignment, and member organization, helping communities move toward a more structured operational workflow.

Designing a Scalable Product

Creating consistency across a growing platform.

As new features were introduced, maintaining consistency became increasingly important. To support future growth, reusable patterns and components were established across the platform, ensuring a cohesive experience while reducing design complexity.

This approach helped create a foundation that could scale alongside the product's expanding functionality.

Impact & Reflection

Contributing to a platform used by thousands of students.

Through this internship, I gained hands-on experience working with product requirements, collaborating with stakeholders, and designing solutions for real-world users. The platform went on to support 100+ events and hackathons and facilitated 10,000+ student registrations, providing valuable insight into designing products at scale.
